< ![]() Yellah Dog - Wallowa County Line |
|
| The name of the CD is "Wallowa County Line" and is named after a song that Henry Kinsley wrote about how good it feels to get back to the county when you've been away for a while. There's a song about the "Imnaha Store and Tavern", and one called "The Legend" about a Nez Perce indian lady and the Blackfoot Chieftan that were swallowed up by a monster that the Nez Perce believe lives in Wallowa Lake. Then there is a tune about the night the "Devil Came to Maxville" back in the 1920's. The album is reflective of everyday life and talks about the local ranchers fight with the tenacious thistle plant, in The "Thistle Blues", and "Eggs and Ibuprofen" a song about doing spawning surveys on the rivers. There are tunes about love in "Wallowa County Cowgirl" and "Street Legal". Henry sings about the excursion train, after Judy pleads with him to buy a ticket for her to "Ride the Train". This album is a unique collection of home spun songs about Wallowa County. It features Henry and Judy (yes Judy) Kinsley, Dub Darnielle, Matthew Bell, Bill Knox, and Al Bell. It has two guest appearances. One is by Bassist Rich Shirley. Rich played with a folk group back in the 50's, 60's and 70's called the "Travellers Three". He is currently living in Wallowa County and plays bass for several different groups. Second is Violinist Lisa Robertson. Lisa is a doctor of music from Eastern Oregon University. When the band wrote a song in memory of Oliver Boeve who recently passed away from pancreatic cancer, Lisa was kind enough to come into the studio and put a soulful violin accompaniment on the song, "Pocket Memory". |
